HISTORY

The Newark Trust for Education was founded in January 2011 by a group of influential stakeholders from across multiple sectors in Newark to address critical needs in education. During SY2016, the Board of Trustees conducted an extensive assessment that led to clear priorities. In January 2017, the Board hired the current Executive Director and asked him to transform the Trust into a premier education intermediary for the city.

During the first half of 2020, the Trust developed its current 7-year strategic plan.

The Trust is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to coordinating efforts and focusing resources to improve the quality of public education for all Newark children and establish an accountability framework among multiple stakeholders.
